A techie is a slang term used to describe someone who has a wide knowledge of computers in general or of specific computer areas such as hardware, software or the Internet. There are a range of other names that a techie may be referred to such as a computer geek and therefore being referred to as a techie can sometimes make people think of a stereotype antisocial, overweight white male without a girlfriend.
