Anyone with a good memory will remember how crappy Gola used to
be, when I was a nipper their football boots used to the worst and
cheapest around. Woolworth's used to sell them for about £3
a pair, same went for their trainers. Time went by and the brand
all but disappeared, so it was with trepidation I viewed some Gola
trainers in my local sports store for a price rivaling £40.
How could this be I thought? Gola for heavens sake. I looked further
down and a pair of Gola Rampage were priced at £19, now this
made sense. My world had turned upside down for a moment. Plain
white it was actually quite a smart trainer, styled in the currently
popular retro 70's with a gum sole. Very much copying Adidas/puma
who have launched cross style stitchstyles of their original trainers.
I decided to screw it and own my first pair of Gola, comfy, stylish,
with soft leather well worth the £20 asking price. Very impressed
with this rebranded rebirth of an 70/80's crap fest company.
