A personal computer is often referred to as a PC. A PC is a computer used by one person and was first developed by IBM in the late 1970's and early 1980's. When most people refer to a PC they are usually referring to a computer that is IBM compatible and runs an operating system such as Windows and an Intel structured processor. On the whole an Apple Macintosh is not thought of as a PC but as a Mac.
