Off The Shelf

Off The Shelf refers to computer software bought from a retail shop and that comes in a box. For example if you went to PC World and bought Windows XP, this would be considered an "off the shelf" piece of computer software. Off the shelf computer software is usually developed with the intention of it being used by a large amount of people. Otherwise computer software is designed specifically for a certain person or task, this computer software is "tailor made".
