A monochrome monitor can only display two shades and colour, onw for the foreground and one for the background. Monochrome monitors were popular in the past when colour monitors were extremely expensive to buy. Present day you would only find monochrome monitors on decade old computer systems, in museums and on old mainframe computer terminal machines.
