Mailing Lists are used by web sites to store a list of email addresses from registered members and customers. Therefore whenever they have some new information for their members they can automatically send an email to all the email addresses in the mailing list. Web sites usually have an option for you to be deleted from a mailing list if you are fed up of the emails being sent.
