Tips

  • Email Scams - What to Avoid - One of the most common ways for a computer to become ...
    • One of the most common email scams is official looking emails asking for personal information such as a credit card number, social-security number, or password for your isp account. You may also have emails sent from administrators from top retailers such as eBay and Amazon asking for your account details and password. These type of email scams are becoming more and more common. The solution is simple, never send your personal details for anything by email. Companies such as Amazon or banks like HSBC will never ask you to send personal details by email. So if you do get an email asking for personal details just send an email to that company such as Amazon asking if the request was genuine or a scam.
  • Scanning email attachments - One of the most common ways for a computer ....
    • One of the most common ways for a computer to become infected by a virus is by email attachments. Many spam email messages include attachments which contain viruses. So therefore you should always scan an email attachment for viruses before downloading or viewing it. Many free email services such as Yahoo's include an attachments virus scanner but not all. Outlook Express is one email package where downloading an attachment with a virus is very easy.
  • Find website owner information - It is possible to find the registar or owner of a website .....
    • It is possible to find the registar or owner of a website quite easily on the web. The company which stores all owner information about websites in the UK is Nominet. So you can do a whois search on this website and find all the registar information. A whois search is very easy to perform, all you to do is type in the website url and Nominet will do all the rest.
  • Case sensitivity and URLs - Remember that when typing a URL .....
    • Website URLs such as,

      http://www.internet-guide.co.uk/INDEX.HTML

      and

      http://www.internet-guide.co.uk/index.htm

are not the same because URLs in Internet Explorer are case sensitive. This means that if you have been given a URL and are getting a 404 access error it may be because you havent typed the URL correctly. Remember they are case sensitive, especially on Unix hosts.

  • Dont Shout - When posting in forums and newsgroups its generally ....
    • Whenever creating an email, website page, posting on a forum, usenet etc. it is important not to use capital letters. Most users equate using capital letter like "DON'T SHOUT" as shouting and may not appreciate you using them. Most people also find it much harder to read passages of text written in capital letters. Therefore it is seen as better netiquette not to use capital letters.
  • Tired of changing your Email address - If you are changing isp's ...
    • If you are changing isp's on a regular basis or logging into different pc's from work and home then you may found you are using 2 or more email addresses. Too avoid this you can get a free email address from websites such as yahoo and mail and log into it from any pc at any location. The downside to this maybe that the free email addresses get spammed alot, the service may do down, and security may be a little lax.
  • Using Keyboard Shortcuts to Surf - With Internet Explorer 6 ....
    • With Internet Explorer 6 it is possible to surf pages you have visted by using the cursor keys on your keyboard. All you need to do is press the ALT key while pressing the left-arrow key to the previous web page and right-arrow key to go to the next page. Email Internet Guide if you have any other useful key combinations to surf the Internet.
  • Switching in-game to windows - After messing with the config file ...
    • Question: After messing with the config file to change my name when I use alt+tab or windows key I cant minimise my game online any more.

      Answer: Try doing as follows:

Alt-Enter to switch from the game to windowed mode...

      then alt tab between programs.

It's been known to not work otherwise.

If that still doesn't work then turn off programs such as winamp. The winamp skin can sometimes interfere with desktop display.

You can't Alt-Tab between your game and the windows program when running the game fullscreen. At least pretty sure I've never been able to. To test if you can you could also try to just have CoD *fullscreen* and notepad open and try to Alt-Tab then, probably won't work though.

Best to only switch when running CoD in windowed mode though.
