The Google founders Larry Page and Sergie Brin are both in their
thirties, and first met at Stanford University in the mid-1990s,
where they were doing doctorates in computer sciences. The first
system they created was called BackRub, whereby the search engine
would list results according to the popularity of the pages. They
formed Google in 1998 after pulling together $1m from family, friends
and other investors. Since then Google growth has been exceptional,
Google got 10,000 queries per day to begin with and now has 200
million.
