A search engine will filter common words such as "a, as, for, I, do" so that it can crawl and index web site pages quicker and easier. The other plus side for search engines is that SE's like Google who index 3 billion web site pages, filtering out common words can save lots of database space. This again means a search engine can run a search quicker than if it didn't filter words.
