DirectX - Overview

A collection of seven APIs (DirectDraw, Direct3D, DirectSound, DirectMusic, DirectInput, DirectPlay, DirectShow) produced and distributed by Microsoft. DirectX was created by Microsoft to provide a set of api's for programmers to access hardware features such as video cards and sound cards. There is always a new version of DirectX being developed by Microsoft so that Windows can provide the latest software support for the latest video and sound card technology. DirectX is also free to download and use, and can be found at the Microsoft web site.
