This refers to programs that reside on a users desktop rather than the server they are connecting to. An example of a client-side program is Microsoft's MSN Messenger or an ICQ client program such as MIRC. Client-side programs can save servers a great deal of memory space and bandwidth usage and are therefore a good idea for high usage services on the Internet.
