BT Broadband has underwent a few name changes in the past decade,
such as BT Openworld, BT Total Broadband and BT Yahoo Broadband.
What has remained the same is the type of Internet connection packages
offered to it's users. You can pay per minute to use the Internet
via dialup.
At one point all BT's packages had a download/upload limit. But
they do now provide an unlimited usage package for broadband. The
speed on offer from BT Broadband are up to 10x or 20x faster than
dial-up (for most homes). And features such as up to 11 email addresses,
virus protection, junk mail and virus protection, parental controls,
connect more than one PC and advanced online gaming support.
BT's partnership with Yahoo! ensured that users would gain free
access to all Yahoo!'s subscribed paid services. Oddly, in 2009,
the homepage for BT Yahoo! now has it's search results provided
by Google. Which may suggest the strength of the partnership is
on the wane.
A criticism of BT is the claim that it 'throttles' traffic at peak
times. Which means that users can not gain a good download speed
of services such as file sharing networks on weekday evenings.
