This is a whole in security in a software package such as a networking operating system like Unix. Back Door's are left by the designers of the software so that there is always a way to gain access to the software if passwords etc are forgotten. The problem with back door's is if they become public knowledge and hackers take advantage of this, hackers also make a job of searching software for back door's.
