Moderators are most commonly found on the World Wide Web editing and overseeing online content submitted by users. Two examples where moderators or 'mods' for short are found are forum discussion boards and sites like Dmoz and Wiki which relay on volunteers to edit their content. It's hard to evaluate the power 'mods' are given for one off sites like Wiki, but for packaged discussion boards like phpbb they generally have the ability to delete and edit posts, delete and move threads, and manipulate a few other things. Becoming a moderator can be a paid activity, but is usually a reward given to a user who has shown an ability to help others and / or is knowledgeable in a subject.
