Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg founded the website Facebook whilst studying at the ivy league university, Harvard. His Facebook co-founders were,

  • Dustin Moskovitz
  • Eduardo Saverin

The inspiration for Facebook has come under scrutiny. There has been claimants, such as Aaron Greenspan, who believe that Zuckerberg copied his idea of connecting university students. Other people have claimed that Zuckerberg was originally inspired by his high school website, which students named "The Facebook".

Zuckerberg has stated that his goal for Facebook was to promote an open flow of information in a minimalist online setting, and, which increases social connection. The success of Facebook has propelled Zuckerberg to a position of influence. He is credited as the face of the information age, and is the world's youngest billionaire. Facebook is the leading social neworking website (as of 2010)

Zuckerberg launched Facebook on the fourth of February in 2004. At startup, Facebook was only available to Harvard students. It soon expanded to other universities, and then to the populace in general. Zuckerberg and Moskovitz moved Facebook's base of operations to Palo Alto, California, in 2004. The pair originally shared a home with Napster founder Sean Parker, who was the president of the fledging company in 2004. Parker retains a 7% share of the company.

As of 2010, Zuckerberg currently owns twenty four percent of Facebook, and is the current CEO and President of the company. The other co-founders own between 4-12% of the company. Eduardo Saverin took legal action over Zuckerberg's dilution of his company shares. Saverin originally owned 34% of Facebook's shares, which were diluted to below 9%.
